About
I am a mom, attorney and advocate. I'm excited to work with you to provide the support you and your child need through your special education journey.
I vividly remember my first meeting to discuss the academic, emotional and behavioral challenges my son was facing in school. It was emotional and I was an outsider who didn't speak the lingo. After that meeting, regardless of my preparation and experience as a lawyer, I will never forget how I felt at the initial Individualized Education Program (IEP) meeting where the team went around the table presenting their findings one after the other. It was an overwhelming experience.
As a result, I immersed myself in the field of special education and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). I wholeheartedly believe in the quote, acknowledge plus action equals power, so I took action. My passion is advocating for families that face situations like my own. To help support you, I continue to be a student within the field by networking at workshops, attending classes, and continuing my education through webinars. This continued education helps me build my skills in advocacy and negotiation strategies, and focus on the special education and disability laws, regulations, cases, and policies and procedures that impact this specialized subject.
My passion for ensuring all children receive a free appropriate public education was ignited because my son needed an advocate to secure services that would help him grow academically, socially and emotionally. I believe a collaborative approach between teachers, administrators, and parents is the best place to start in this process, but in certain circumstances having legal support is necessary to ensure your child's needs are identified and met.
I am passionate about helping children see their potential and reach their goals. I will support and advocate for you and your child, and at the same time, help you strengthen your relationship with the school system. By doing so, all parties at the table accomplish the common goal of providing your child with the educational opportunities he or she deserves and is entitled.
