About
I have more than 15 years of experience in special education. Starting my career in the classroom, working with a wide range of students from those with learning disabilities to those in substantially separate classrooms supporting students with social emotional and behavioral disabilities as well as students with autism spectrum disorder and other intellectual disabilities.
Most recently I have spent the last 10 plus years providing services to individuals and their families as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) in a variety of settings including home-based, school-based and center-based services.
As an advocate, I pride myself on my supportive, individualized, collaborative and detail-oriented approach to educational consulting and advocacy. I use my training and experiences to guide families through the special education process. Together we take a holistic, compassionate and strength-based view, focusing on teaching skills and building independence while respecting the autonomy, values and goals of each individual.
I have worked with individuals in every age group, from Early Intervention to those transitioning into adult services. My strengths include developing effective treatments for challenging behaviors, supporting the implementation of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) systems, using an individual’s interests to teach new skills, generalizing skills throughout an individual’s life in meaningful ways, and fostering independence through a collaborative team approach.
In addition to being an educational consultant and advocate, I am a nationally certified ski instructor and hold certifications in both alpine and adaptive ski instruction. My passion for teaching and working with people with disabilities goes beyond my work in the classroom. The seed for these passions were planted in my love for therapeutic recreation. My firsthand experience has taught me that learning goes beyond the traditional classroom; skills that can be taught through therapeutic recreation and leisure skills can not only be generalized to the academic setting but can unlock lifelong passions, build meaningful social relationships, and help individuals live well-balanced and fulfilling lives. Whether it is in the classroom, the dojo, or on the slopes, I am always eager to guide individuals to their fullest potential.
My time in the classroom and behavior analytic lens have given me a unique perspective on the special education process, and how best to guide families through it. I am confident that together we will find the most effective path to your goals.
